Adoption

GE Investigations offers DNA testing and other laboratory services through an accredited DNA laboratory (not a test kit).

On average, there are approximately 120,000 adoptions each year in the United States, with inter- country adoptions accounting for more than 15 percent of all adoptions. It is estimated that there are over 6 million adopted children living in the United States today.

Despite the wonders of adoption, there often comes a time in the lives of both adopted children and their biological parents to seek each other out. The decision to search can be varied, however it is often triggered by major life events such as marriage or the birth of a child. In modern medicine, the medical history of biological parents can be extremely useful in diagnosis and treatment of disease in descendents.

DNA Reunion (TM)

DNA Reunion is an advanced technology based registry that harnesses the power of DNA to reunite adoptees and their birth parents. The power of DNA allows for reunification without knowing any biographical information about the birth relative you are searching for.

DNA is the secret language of life and defines the essence of our individuality. The year 2003 marked the completion of the Human Genome Project, a 13 year endeavor coordinated by the United States government to sequence the entire human genome. Despite the massive size of the human genome, 3.2 billion bases pairs or letters, all unrelated people in the world share 99.9% of the same DNA. It is the differences in 0.1% of DNA that is responsible for the vast differences in the human race.

Enrollment*

Participation in the DNA Reunion (TM) registry is simple, easy and painless.

* Collect DNA from inside of cheek using sterile swab
* Return DNA sample and enrollment card

At the laboratory, a high resolution 16 marker DNA profile is determined and input into the DNA ReunionTM database to search for possible matches between parent and child. This high resolution DNA profile can achieve a probability of identity greater than one in 40,000,000,000,000,000,000, in select populations. Clients are notified in writing of any genetic matches.

Your DNA profile will remain in the registry for five years and compared to all new profiles for possible matches as they are added. After five years, participants have the option to renew their subscription.

* at this time we are unable to accept samples from residents of New York
