Wade Lee Roberts was charged in O.C. rape case

Sex Offender: Wade Lee Roberts

A registered sex offender with four prior convictions was charged with raping a developmentally disabled woman in an Anaheim motel room, authorities said Tuesday afternoon.

Wade Lee Roberts, 60, who lives in Anaheim, is accused of offering the woman a ride and raping her as she cried and told him to stop, the Orange County district attorney’s office said.

The victim, who is in her 30s, fled after the attack and called 911, according to prosecutors.

Roberts is charged with one felony count each of rape of an incompetent person, sexual penetration by foreign object of an incompetent victim and oral copulation of an incompetent person, the district attorney’s office said in a statement.

Roberts was convicted in Los Angeles County in 2008 of felonies including continuous sexual abuse of a child and lewd acts on a child under 14, according to the district attorney’s office.

He was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. If convicted, Roberts faces a maximum sentence of 45 years to life in state prison.
